About Adaptive Crossroads

Where Every Path Leads to Possibility

Adaptive Crossroads is a nonprofit organization based in Omaha, Nebraska, dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals of all ages, with a specialty in serving those with physical and developmental disabilities.

We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, connect, build confidence, and experience a sense of belonging. Through inclusive educational programs, recreation, life skills, wellness initiatives, and community events, we help individuals discover new abilities while creating lasting friendships and meaningful experiences.

Every program we offer is designed with one goal in mind: helping people reach their fullest potential while building a stronger, more inclusive community.

Who We Are

Our Experience

Adaptive Crossroads was founded from more than 15 years of hands-on experience working alongside individuals with disabilities through adaptive fitness, Special Olympics, community programming, and life skills education.

Throughout those years, one thing became clear. Families often struggled to find programs that focused on the whole person rather than just one specific service. Many individuals faced long waitlists, limited opportunities after aging out of school, or a lack of places where they could continue learning, growing, and building friendships.

Adaptive Crossroads was created to change that.

Today, we provide opportunities that encourage independence, strengthen communication, build confidence, improve social connections, and promote lifelong learning in a welcoming environment where everyone belongs.

Our Impact

Every event at Adaptive Crossroads is about more than just an activity—it's about creating opportunities for people to connect, build confidence, and feel like they belong.

Whether we're gathering for an Adaptive Art event, sharing a meal and conversation at Social Table, or exploring our community together, we're seeing friendships form, smiles grow, and individuals try new things they may have never thought possible.

Many of our community events now welcome 40 to 50 participants, bringing together individuals, families, caregivers, volunteers, and community partners in an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome.

As we've grown, so have the ideas and needs shared by our community. Families and organizations continue to ask for additional opportunities that promote communication, mental wellness, team building, recreation, and lifelong learning. Those conversations help shape the future of Adaptive Crossroads as we continue building programs that respond to the needs of the people we serve.

We're just getting started, and we're excited to continue growing alongside our community.

Our Vision

At Adaptive Crossroads, we envision a community where every individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, build meaningful relationships, and discover their unique strengths.

As we continue to grow, our vision is to build upon the incredible work already taking place throughout our community by collaborating with individuals, families, provider agencies, schools, healthcare professionals, businesses, universities, and fellow nonprofit organizations. We believe lasting change happens when communities come together with a shared purpose.

Through these partnerships, we hope to expand opportunities, remove barriers, and create innovative programs that respond to the evolving needs of those we serve. Every new connection strengthens our mission and helps create a more inclusive community where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Together, we are building a future where opportunity is accessible, inclusion is intentional, and every path truly leads to possibility.

Adaptive Crossroads Core Foundation

Inclusion

Strong communities are built together. We proudly work alongside families, provider agencies, schools, healthcare professionals, businesses, volunteers, universities, and fellow nonprofit organizations to expand opportunities and strengthen the incredible work already taking place throughout our community.

Together, we can create lasting change that no one organization could accomplish alone.

Looking Forward

As Adaptive Crossroads continues to grow, these principles will remain the foundation of everything we do. They guide how we develop new programs, build meaningful partnerships, and respond to the evolving needs of our community.

Every step we take is driven by the belief that when people come together with compassion, purpose, and opportunity, incredible things happen.

Because at Adaptive Crossroads, every path truly leads to possibility.

Meet The Founder

Brandon Herring — Founder

Adaptive Crossroads was founded by Brandon Herring, whose passion for serving individuals with disabilities has been shaped by more than 15 years of hands-on experience working directly alongside individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Throughout his career, Brandon has dedicated himself to helping individuals build confidence, improve their health and wellness, develop life skills, and discover opportunities to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

His experience spans adaptive fitness, health and wellness, community education, life skills coaching, healthcare readiness, communication, community safety, and inclusive programming for individuals of all ages and abilities. Over the years, Brandon has worked closely with individuals, families, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, and community organizations to create meaningful opportunities that promote growth, confidence, and lifelong learning.

Brandon's journey began through Special Olympics, where he discovered a passion for coaching, mentoring, and helping individuals achieve goals they never thought possible. It was also through Special Olympics that he met his wife, Jill. Their shared passion for serving individuals with disabilities became the foundation of both their family and their lifelong commitment to creating more inclusive communities. Together, they have spent years coaching athletes, mentoring families, volunteering countless hours, and advocating for opportunities that allow every individual to reach their fullest potential.

Those experiences ultimately inspired the creation of Adaptive Crossroads. After witnessing both the incredible potential of the individuals they served and the challenges many families faced in finding lifelong opportunities for education, recreation, wellness, and community involvement, Brandon envisioned an organization that would bring those opportunities together under one mission. Adaptive Crossroads was founded to provide individuals of all abilities with a place where they can continue learning, building friendships, developing new skills, and discovering what is possible throughout every stage of life.

Brandon believes that true independence is built through opportunity, encouragement, and meaningful relationships. His leadership philosophy is rooted in meeting individuals where they are, celebrating every success, and creating environments where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to grow. That philosophy continues to guide every program, partnership, and decision made by Adaptive Crossroads.

Today, Brandon and Jill continue to lead Adaptive Crossroads with the same purpose that first brought them together—serving others. They remain committed to working alongside families, volunteers, schools, healthcare professionals, businesses, universities, fellow nonprofit organizations, and community partners to expand opportunities for individuals of all abilities. Together, they believe that when a community comes together with compassion, collaboration, and a shared vision, every path truly leads to possibility.
